Autopsy shows Sinzae Reed, 13, who was fatally shot Oct. 12 by Krieg Butler, 36, at Wedgewood Village Apartments, died of a gunshot wound to the chest
. Butler was arrested within 48 hours of Reed's death on a murder charge and ordered held on $1 million bond. But charges were dismissed several days later after Butler said he shot Reed in self-defense because Franklin County prosecutors wanted to make sure it had the autopsy and ballistic reports and any other evidence in the case.
Reed was found on Wedgewood Drive, near a speed hump, and rushed to OhioHealth Doctors Hospital, where he died from his injuries.in recent weeks that Reed had been shot multiple times in the back. The report shows Reed was struck twice. One of the wounds hit Reed in the wrist on his right, predominant hand. The bullet was found lodged in his wrist. The other shot struck Reed on the right side of his chest, damaging his heart and a lung before exiting through his back, ultimately causing his death, the report states.
Reed's death was ruled a homicide, one of five determinations coroners have for the manner of a person's death. Homicide is defined as the killing of one person by another and a homicide ruling by itself does not mean a crime has been committed.The autopsy also showed the presence of THC, the primary component of marijuana, in Reed's blood. The finding does not indicate when he had consumed the marijuana or that he was intoxicated at the time of his death.
