Frasier reboot's executive producer Chris Harris talks about Niles' replacement in the new show, Alan, and how he's different from Frasier's brother.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Co-executive producer Chris Harris explains Niles' replacement character in the Frasier reboot, Alan, including how he is different from the younger Crane brother. Once it was made clear that David Hyde Pierce wouldn't be joining the Frasier reboot, Kelsey Grammer and his team had to find a way to pivot away from Seattle, hence the revival's Boston setting.

Speaking with TV Guide, Harris opens up about the tall order to find a replacement for Niles, including how they landed on Frasier's first friend. Ultimately, they banked on Lyndhurst impeccable comedic chops for Alan. Read his full quote below: And for the character, we knew we didn't want to exactly replicate Niles. No one can match David Hyde Pierce, but we wanted to have that feel. And so much of it is just what Nick is amazing at, but we felt like maybe going in the other direction of maybe this is someone who also does enjoy the fine things, but is as carefree as can be and enjoys popping people's balloons and is there to sort of puncture Frasier's plans or ego or whatever it is that needs puncturing in the moment.

How Nicholas Lyndhurst’s Alan Differs From Niles The Frasier reboot's central relationship will be the father-and-son dynamic between Frasier and grown-up Freddy. It's the revival's way of honoring Martin Crane's legacy as the Paramount+ endeavor mines inspiration from his story with his firstborn in Seattle. However, the show is diversifying Frasier's story by also exploring his other relationships in Boston.

Alan has all the hallmarks of the Crane brothers, no wonder he and Frasier hit it off. Like Martin's sons, he is highly intellectual. He is also a great source of physical comedy, as seen with his alcohol bit in "The Good Father." However, he isn't an elitist. Instead, he's far more reminiscent of the people hung out with at Cheers. He isn't pretentious and is very nonchalant.
