Prime Minister Scott Morrison has rejected Labor’s push for a $300 cash bonus instead favouring “freedom incentives” after new research found financial rewards had a negligible impact on vaccine rates.
Speaking at Tuesday’s press conference Mr Morrison promoted exemptions for the vaccinated which were previously detailed under phase B of National Cabinet’s reopening plan.
It comes after new research requested by the Federal government found large financial incentives and lotteries have had “little to no impact” on long-term vaccination rates However, United States President Joe Biden offered $100 to every American who is fully vaccinated while the British government promised discounts with Uber, Deliveroo and other businesses.
“They want peace of mind that they can move more freely, send their kids to school, work. So any incentives around those things we think are great motivators so we're looking at those options,” she said.
