Heavy rainfall and humidity is expected to help dampen fire-affected areas across Victoria this afternoon.
Thunderstorms forecast to hit Victoria this afternoon will bring much-needed humidity and rain into fire-affected areas, but there are fears flash flooding and strong winds could topple trees, create landslides and send debris onto roads.Communities suffering from a lack of tourism are begging people to return when the threat is overBureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Michael Efron said humid and"unsettled" conditions would move across the state this afternoon and tonight.
He said because vast amounts of vegetation had been burnt over the last month, there was the potential for flash flooding to sweep debris into waterways and onto roads and cause landslides. A local business owner commended firefighting aircraft brought in to fight the French Island blaze, and said without them, the fire could have been a catastrophe for the isolated community.
