American Jessica Pegula eased past compatriot Danielle Collins, a former Australian Open finalist, in straight sets to claim a 6-4 6-2 first-round win.
Earlier, Russian Andrey Rublev quashed an attempted comeback from unseeded Serbian Laslo Djere to win 6-1 3-6 6-3 6-4 and book his place in the second round.Italian 17th seed Lorenzo Musetti breezed through the first round with a 7-5 6-2 6-4 win over Sweden's Mikael Ymer, who made Canadian Leylah Fernandez, who reached the quarter-finals last year, beat Polish 21st seed Magda Linette 6-3 1-6 6-3.Fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas overcame a third-set wobble and saved four set points in the fourth set to beat Jiri Vesely 7-5 6-3 4-6 7-6.
"It was a tough match, both physically and mentally, but I'm in the next round," the 11th seed said. "I love to play a best of five, because you have a little more space, if the first two sets are not going well."
