The measure comes after a ruling from the WTO.
Wine from France, Germany, Spain or the United Kingdom will be taxed. : Hundreds of speciality goods from Europe, such as French wine and parmesan cheese, may cost more by the end of the month after the World Trade Organization ruled the U.S. could impose a 25% tariff on goods from the European Union to resolve a 15 year long trade dispute.
Some of the goods included in the tariffs include single-malt Irish and Scotch whiskies, European cheeses, sweaters from the U.K., coffee from Germany and olives from France, Germany, Spain or the U.K. The WTO ruled Wednesday that the Trump Administration could institute the tariffs because the European Union illegally subsidized Airbus, a European aerospace company that competes with Boeing. The tariffs will be in place until a more permanent settlement can be negotiated with the EU, the White House said.
