Victorian senator David Van has resigned from the Liberal Party following allegations of misconduct towards female colleagues, which he denies.
One of his coalition colleagues says he should leave parliament altogether.
Senator Van quit the Liberal Party a day before a committee was due to discuss the claims he inappropriately touched independent senator Lidia Thorpe and former Liberal senator Amanda Stoker. "All political parties have faced these type of internal challenges over the recent past and for a leader to be so decisive, I think, was a testament to his strength of feeling around these matters," she told ABC's Insiders program on Sunday.
Senator McKenzie said she wasn't aware of specific allegations against Senator Van before they became public and she supported Senator Thorpe's decision to detail them under parliamentary privilege.
