Friday discounts to sweeten Opal fare hikes for Sydney commuters

Fares are rising 3.7 per cent from 16 October which the NSW government said will equate to less than $1 a week for the average commuter.

But to sweeten the deal, Friday fares will become cheaper than other weekdays - with the weekend 30 per cent discount to apply on Fridays in a bid to encourage more people into the city at the end of the week.Transport Minister Jo Haylen said it would make every weekend a long weekend.
