Producer Bryan Fuller reveals that the upcoming FridayThe13th prequel series will most likely get a season 2 on Peacock after it premieres: 'They came in strong and gave us a full-season commitment with a huge penalty if we don't do a second season.'

Friday the 13th prequel series producer Bryan Fuller has revealed that the show is more or less guaranteed a season 2. The Friday the 13th franchise began in 1980 with the scrappy independent slasher film of the same name, a bloody summer camp movie that made a huge splash in the box office and garnered seven sequels and a 3-season unrelated tie-in series by the end of the 1980s.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Although the Friday the 13th remake was a success in the box office, a sequel failed to materialize. As fans waited with bated breath, the rights to the original film's screenplay became entangled at the center of a complicated legal battle, and the future of Friday was cast into doubt.

One of the things that is super exciting and one of the many reasons that we went with Peacock is that they blew every other competitor out of the water. There was a bidding war on this, and they came in strong and gave us a full-season commitment with a huge penalty if we don't do a second season. So it's kind of a two-season commitment , but really just the first-season commitment. We're going to have roughly five times the per-episode budget that we had on Hannibal.

How Closely Will the Friday the 13th Series Resemble the Movies? One positive development about the Friday the 13th prequel is the recent revelation that it will be able to bring in Jason Voorhees in addition to his mother Pamela, who was the killer in the original film.

Friday the 13th has a tenuous relationship to continuity on a film-by-film basis as it stands, however. It seems that the most likely approach will be to have the series tell its own self-contained slasher story about Jason and his mother that brings in established elements and characters from the films at will.
