The bathroom had no floor and the kitchen had sunk in when Tom bought his Richmond home in 2010. Now, it’s had a dramatic transformation.
By artist Tom Adair’s own admission, the style of the Richmond home he shares with wife Nikki and son Arkley won’t be to everyone’s taste.
Since then, the couple have transformed the home from a “bargain buy” without a bathroom floor to an architect-designed luxury residence with rooftop terrace, LED-lit cabinetry, high-end finishes and dramatic artwork throughout.“It was a pretty hot market when we were buying, and we were getting outbid at every auction,” Tom said.
“We actually realised we were in a great area. had started to shift, so we decided we’d stay there and basically rebuild. We finished the rebuild in 2018.”Not much of the old structure is left. “The only thing that’s remaining from the first house was the front wall,” he said. “My art is definitely well finished, and I think about every little detail before I start painting,” he said. “I think the house is like that as well. We really thought through how we were going to use the space.“ inside the cabinetry upstairs, it’s all bright pink and LED lit on the inside. It’s small things like that, there’s a lot of considered detail in the design you won’t see if you’re not in the house.
