Johnson & Johnson says while its talc-based range will be discontinued globally from next year, its Australian products already contain the new ingredient.
The move comes two years after it ended US sales due to thousands of consumer safety lawsuits. The company faces about 38,000 lawsuits from consumers and their survivors who claim the talc-based products caused cancer, due to contamination with asbestos which is a known carcinogen.and said decades of scientific testing and regulatory approvals have shown its talc to be safe and asbestos-free.
But talcum powder has fallen out of favour with parents who are now choosing products that contain other natural ingredients to use on their babies' skin.
