Tamara Zidansek becomes the first Slovenian woman to make the semi-final of a grand slam, defeating Spain's Paula Badosa at the French Open.

Tamara Zidansek has become a wholly unexpected semi-finalist at the French Open after the world number 85 overcame Spain's Paula Badosa in a nervy but thrilling last-eight encounter at Roland Garros.

Badosa forged her way back into the contest, reeling off six games in a row to take early control of the deciding set. "You always have to be on top of your game mentally, and I'm just happy that I came back in the third set to win a tough battle like this," said Zidansek, a three-time junior national snowboard champion before she decided it was too chilly a pastime for her.

The 31st-seeded Pavlyuchenkova entered the day with an 0-6 record in previous singles quarter-finals at all major tournaments. But the 29-year-old came out on top in a match that lasted more than two and a half hours and ended on a double fault by Rybakina.
