Jasmine Waddington, a 22-year-old from Tasmania, discovered a passion for pigface farming after a medical condition forced her to give up her active lifestyle.

Northern Tasmania n resident Jasmine Waddington had envisioned her life revolving around sports before a medical condition greatly restricted her physical abilities at the age of 15. After her POTS diagnosis, Ms Waddington discovered gardening and developed a passion for pigface, which she has made a business out of growing.Ms Waddington has a pre-order list for her plants and wants to grow the business even further.

She says her garden is an 'escape from my health condition' and almost like a therapy. Twenty-two-year-old Jasmine Waddington is passionate about a group of flowering plants called pigface.'I call myself a pigface farmer, and I'm hoping one day I might manifest a farm and literally just have pigface everywhere,' she said.Ms Waddington, from Longford in northern Tasmania, considered herself a 'non-stop' teen who loved sport.'I played club netball and dancing, then did netball, basketball, football and dancing in school as well … I literally would go from school sport, to netball training, to dancing in one day.'But the onset of an autonomic nervous system disorder suddenly restricted her physical abilities, and things 'completely changed'.She experienced constant nausea and fatigue, panic attacks and insomnia, and was 'unable to do any kind of sport'.'I tried to push myself to live my old life, but that didn't last … I made myself even more unwell.'After finally accepting her situation, Ms Waddington went on the hunt for a new hobby.'Once I got my hands dirty for the first time, playing around the garden, I found something I enjoyed.'Ms Waddington was inspired to get into gardening by her grandmother, Judy Steel, who taught her how to do 'all things gardening'.And it was Ms Steel who introduced Ms Waddington to pigface, a worldwide group of succulent plants that come in a variety of colours.
