Meteorologists issued warnings regarding wind, flooding, heavy rain, as much as 7 inches of snow and ice-covered roads for Wednesday and Thursday.
Buckle up, Chicago, the weather during the next 36 hours looks like it’s going to be a wild, season-traversing ride, forecasters warned.
The crazy mix of weather prompted several warnings from meteorologists regarding wind, flooding, heavy rain, as much as 7 inches of snow, ice-covered roads and the potential for river levels to quickly rise, possibly melting and breaking the ice. Rain will start falling south of the metro area — mainly in areas south of Interstate 80 and in the Kankakee area and central Illinois and Indiana — during the afternoon, “but heaviest rainfall is expected tonight,” forecasters said.
Snowfall should begin in the Chicago metro area early Thursday, coinciding with the morning commute, which could cause serious delays and lead to crashes. At least 2 to 4 inches are expected in the immediate metro area, while the Joliet and Kankakee areas could see as much as 7 inches, forecasters said. What’s more, most of northern Illinois also could be coated with anywhere from a “glaze of ice” to a tenth of an inch of ice.
