Trenna Probert was 24 and working the front desk at the Park Hyatt in Sydney when a hotel customer noticed she had the gift of the gab.

By the time she was 34, the business Ms Probert started after Amex had included a “horrible” court dispute , she’d lost her self-confidence , and was a single mother with a young child. She also met her husband, former Macquarie chief investment officer Craig Swanger, and they eventually set up Super Fierce, a business she says, is “at its essence, my answer to what happened to me when I was 34”.

“If you’re a young person, you will be made redundant or fired about six times. So instead of being blindsided and upset, plan for it, assume it’s going to happen; make sure you’ve got a back-up plan, and you’re acquiring skills and networks on the way through.”
