Although Frozen 3's plotline has not been announced, one thing is for sure: if it wants to be successful, the film needs to drop the fifth spirit.
If it wants to work, Frozen 3 needs to abandon Frozen 2's Fifth Spirit storyline. Frozen 2 introduced the fifth spirit story in the franchise to explain where Elsa's powers originate from and why she is the only person with magical powers in Arendelle.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY While not much is known about the plot of the upcoming Frozen 3, it may involve magic and possibly another conflict in the Frozen universe. Magic has been the focus of the Frozen franchise for the past two films. While the first installment of the Frozen series focused on Elsa's discovery and acceptance of her powers, Frozen 2 answered the question of the source of her powers.
If anything, the Fifth Spirit storyline only added confusion and plot holes to Frozen 2. Therefore, Frozen 3 may risk falling into the trap of focusing on the Fifth Spirit again to resolve the plot holes and answer those questions left open at the end of Frozen 2. However, this wouldn't work for Frozen 3, as it would only repeat a storyline the audience has already seen.
Frozen 3 Has No Real Need To Continue The Fifth Spirit Story Making a sequel in the Frozen franchise is still a great idea for Disney, however, despite the confusion caused by the Fifth Spirit storyline in Frozen 2, especially if Frozen 3 manages to stay away from falling into a Fifth Spirit storyline again. Moreover, it would not make sense to use the Fifth Spirit as a plot device again, as the Fifth Spirit storyline is essentially completed now.
While Frozen 3 may still tackle the question of magical powers, it can perhaps do so by centering Anna rather than Elsa in Frozen 3. Among the many theories on what the story of Frozen 3 may choose to focus on, a prominent one is that of Anna discovering her powers or perhaps even addressing why Anna, unlike Elsa, has not been given any sort of magical power. However, those are only some options for Frozen 3's plot line.
