Frydenberg drops bankruptcy claim after activist pays up | kishor_nr noeltowell
has ceased his efforts to bankrupt the climate activist who tried to force the former treasurer from parliament on constitutional grounds back in 2019, two years after MPs and senators first started dropping like flies to the dreaded section 44., to prove the former Kooyong MP was entitled to Hungarian citizenship and therefore ineligible to sit in parliament, he walked away with a $410,000 costs order which he had every intention of enforcing, up to the point of bankrupting Staindl.
But Frydenberg clearly labours under no such limitations, telling CBD on Thursday afternoon that Staindl’s effort back in 2019 was a “disgraceful action that should never have been brought.”“The [2020] judgment said of Staindl’s submission it ‘should be rejected. In short, there is no evidence to support it … it depends upon assertion and metaphor made and drawn from unstated premises rooted in argument, rather than evidence.
Staindl was understandably circumspect after the end of the case against him, but also thanked his supporters in a way that suggests that a good chunk of the settlement was crowdsourced.
