A tradesman who saw a koala get 'cleaned up' by a truck in an area that is home to the only growing koala population in NSW says the fence designed to protect the iconic animal is an unacceptable condition.
The koala hauled itself onto a pile of carpet after being hit by a truck on Picton Road , near Appin.A tradesman was brought to tears after witnessing a truck run over a koala on Picton Road in the Illawarra region.James Marmont drives to work every day using one of the busiest transport corridors in New South Wales, but Wednesday's trip was enough to bring him to tears.The tradesman from Horsley witnessed a koala drag itself off Picton Road after it was run over by a truck.
"The koala went straight underneath the truck – not underneath the wheels – and got barrel-rolled underneath it," Mr Marmont said.Mr Marmont noticed fencing installed to protect koalas from being hit by passing vehicles had been damaged.Other passers-by stopped to render care to the animal, which had perched itself on a pile of old carpet on the side of the road."It's an absolute disgrace," he said.
