Gary Neville has revealed he was in contention to become the England manager before his struggles in charge of Valencia .Neville had a torrid spell at the Spanish club, as he won just three of his 16 LaLiga games in charge and was sacked three months later.podcast, he explained how his appointment at Valencia sparked the potential for him to take over from Hodgson at England .
"Got a call, 'This is exactly what we wanted, we wanted you to get a number one job...' I always remember him making that call to me saying, 'This is the perfect thing for you'." Earlier on, Neville also admitted that he didn't set his sights on being a coach amid the start of his career in the media.
"I'd been asked to go to Middlesbrough for an interview, Newcastle had asked to speak to me and a couple of other clubs, Derby I think had asked to speak to me.
