GB News insiders say being sanctioned by Ofcom for vaccine misinformation is good for the brand 🔴 adamsherwin10 reports
Insiders claimed a rebuke from media regulator Ofcom, which said GB News had breached the broadcasting code after a “materially misleading” claim by presenter Mark Steyn that Covid vaccines were linked to higher death rates, had been “good for the brand.”
One on-air figure said: “People in the mainstream media don’t understand, GB News is on a mission to disrupt. Getting rapped over the knuckles by the broadcasting regulator lets people know we are different, we are anti-establishment.” Sitting MPs Esther McVey and Philip Davies quizzed Chancellor Jeremy Hunt for GB News ahead of the Spring Budget.
Officially, GB News, which boasts a monthly average of 2.3m viewers, says it takes compliance with Ofcom’s rules very seriously. GB News is reining in its costs after accounts for the year to May 31 2022 showed that it made a £30.7m loss on revenues of £3.6m. The channel has continued with a presenter hiring spree, adding Telegraph political journalist Christopher Hope to a line-up which will soon feature John Cleese.
