Melbourne superstar Clayton Oliver is looming as a big story in the upcoming AFL trade period after bombshell reports on Monday. AFL Media reports clubs are eyeing a potential play for the midfielder, who is contracted until the end of 2030 on big money, while The Age have named Geelong as a contender for the four-time best and fairest. The reports come 12 months after the 27-year-old was linked to a move away from the club as his professionalism was called into question.
But he remarkably managed to return in time for the start of the season and played 21 games before his season was shut down with finals out of reach. Oliver showed flashes of his brilliant best, but struggled for consistency and battled through a series of injuries. But complicating a potential move to the Cats is they are also trying to land Bailey Smith as well. Both midfielders will command a hefty trade, and it’s hard to see how Geelong could land both.
