The decorated career of legendary Geelong goalkicker Tom Hawkins will come to an end at the end of the AFL season. The 35-year-old has made the decision while sidelined with a serious foot injury suffered in an innocuous incident in June.

Tom Hawkins goes down with innocuous foot injury. In what had already been a lean year for the 11-time Geelong leading goalkicker, a season-ending injury threatened to cut short his career. But Hawkins and the Cats initially only announced he was out for up to eight weeks with an atypical mid-foot joint and ligament injury. Regardless of when or whether he gets back on the field, he has now confirmed he will retire at the end of the season. “It’s been an awesome journey,” Hawkins said.
