ASPI’s Michael Shoebridge says China’s Defence Minister General Wei Fenghe “completely failed” to engage with the “dangerous actions” of the Chinese military when he gave a speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore.

“I think that gets to the heart of expectation from this meeting,” he told Sky News host Chris Smith. “If Beijing and General Wei as the defence minister has such an enormous gap between what he says … and what their military are actually doing … then it’s really a dialogue that is based on pretence – that’s not proper engagement.”
