LIVE: Clashes, looting and buildings torched: Protesters defy curfews across America
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has joined a number of progressive Australian politicians commenting on the events in the US, stressing "the only legitimate form of protest is peaceful protest" when asked for his views on the movement.
Hundreds of protesters have gathered in Manhattan and Philadelphia. The New York protest seems peaceful, with the group literally chanting "peaceful protest" and "if you see looting, stop it" in videos posted on social media. In Minneapolis, where Floyd died and the protests began, all highways into the city and neighbouring St Paul have been closed.remarks: "The unity of America’s states has been tested this year and it has sorely failed."
In various videos on social media, the man is seen carrying a machete and chasing a group of protesters. A Dallas Police Department spokesman said the man was trying to protect his neighbourhood.
