The star-studded concert celebrating the music of all-time great country-singer George Jones keeps adding more stars. Artists newly added to that show, titled “Still Playin’ Possum,” a reference to Jones’ nickname, include: Aaron Lewis, Blackberry Smoke frontman Charlie Starr, Dillon Carmichael, Gretchen Wilson, Joe Nichols, Sara Evans, and Randy Travis.
Tickets to the concert, being filmed for TV broadcast at a later date and channel yet to be name, quickly sold out. But after the lavish red-curtain-dappled stage was designed, that layout freed up some floor space. A rendering of the stage design, provided exclusive to AL.com by the VBC, is below. The “Still Playin’ Possum” concert takes place 10 years after Jones died, at age 81. At the show, each artist will cover two of Jones’ songs onstage. For example, Wynonna and Jamey Johnson will sing “Golden Ring,” Jones’ powerful duet with Tammy Wynette, who Jones was married to at one point.
Asked what George might think of such an epic tribute to his music, Nancy says, “He’s probably up there sayin, ‘Honey, I can’t believe all those people love me that much.’”
