Dylan Raiola, the top QB and No. 1 player in the 2024 recruiting cycle, has committed to Georgia, he announced. Raiola initially committed to Ohio State but backed off of that pledge in December, and chose the Bulldogs over USC and Nebraska.
now know they will soon have additional competition. It’ll be interesting to see if Raiola’s commitment spurs any movement later this year. —It’s a major loss for Nebraska and first-year coach Matt Rhule. The Huskers built their early 2024 recruiting push around the idea that they could hit more than just a home run in landing this Nebraska legacy and the nephew of their current offensive line coach.
But when Raiola, after visits to Lincoln in February and March, canceled a trip for the Nebraska spring game, reality began to set in that the Huskers simply can’t provide the football fit that the QB desires. Rhule has got a deep bench of quarterbacks and time to recalculate recruiting and transfer-portal efforts for the next class of newcomers. —If Nebraska didn’t have the family connections to Raiola, the Cornhuskers wouldn’t have even been involved.
But no, this is just another instance of the rich getting richer, which, truth be told, is typical for college football. Maybe one day we’ll get something different and — gulp — exciting. —
