European Central Bank Executive Board and Governing Council member Sabine Lautenschlaeger resigned before the end of her term of office and will step down from her position on Oct. 31, the ECB said on Sept. 25.
No reason was given for the German’s early departure, which came before the scheduled end of her term in January 2022. ECB President Mario Draghi thanked Lautenschlaeger for her instrumental role in helping set up and steer Europe-wide banking supervision, a key pillar of banking union, the central bank said.
