A racing crew has survived being engulfed by a fireball after a dragster exploded in Sydney. 7NEWS
Five members of the Jim Read Racing crew were hospitalised after the incident at the Sydney Dragway in Eastern Creek on Saturday.Watch the latest sport on Channel 7 or stream for free onThe crew was preparing Phil Read’s rocket for a race during the fourth round of the Top Fuel Championships.
The incident was broadcast having occurred while TV host Chad Neylon was presenting live from the start line ahead of the race against Peter Xiberras.Chad Neylon was presenting live when the Jim Read Racing crew was engulfed in flames.He and members of the crew rushed over to a member on the ground as the audience sat stunned.The hurt crew members were treated for a range of injuries, including burns and shock. None lost consciousness.
Jim Read Racing said four of crew have been discharged from hospital but one remains needing “further treatment” to a hand injury.
