The drive to deliver a premiership to the players who missed Collingwood’s grand final success could fuel the Magpies’ tilt at back-to-back flags according to Jeremy Howe, who was finally ready to get treatment on the broken ribs he sustained in his team’s epic win.
As vice-captain Taylor Adams became a target for the Sydney Swans in next week’s trade period after injury denied him premiership glory, Howe gave his teammate food for thought about hanging around for his own chance to win a grand final in black and white.
Key to those thoughts were Adams, who injured his hamstring late in the season and then again before the preliminary final, as well as Dan McStay, who hurt his knee in the grand final qualifier, and John Noble, who played every game in 2023 until being dropped before Collingwood’s opening finals win.
“Your Nobles, your Tay Adams, your Dan McStay, guys who played large parts of the whole year, those are the guys who I am drawn to and it would be nice to get them one.” “There’s not much you can say to them, but it’s heartbreaking, they have dreamt about it as much as we have. That was really hard … those are the three, when the dust settles after the game, its’ where your heart goes and spending time with each other and the team is the best way we can support them.
Howe said he was looking to get treatment for his ribs on Friday, knowing he had ample time to get ready for pre-season.
