Lawyers for Ghislaine Maxwell say the convicted sex trafficker's brother promised a $US1 million retainer to have them defend her against charges she helped Jeffrey Epstein abuse girls, but paid just $143,500.

Ghislaine Maxwell is being sued for unpaid fees by the lawyers who defended her on charges she helped Jeffrey Epstein abuse teenage girls.

Two of the firm's lawyers, Laura Menninger and Jeffrey Pagliuca, represented Maxwell throughout her case. The lawsuit also listed as defendants Mr Maxwell and Scott Borgerson, who was described in the lawsuit as Ghislaine Maxwell's husband.Neither Ms Menninger nor Mr Pagliuca immediately responded to requests for comment, nor did Mr Maxwell or Mr Borgerson.Maxwell and Mr Borgerson have separated, according to a sentencing submission written by her lawyers earlier this year.

Maxwell, the daughter of late British press baron Robert Maxwell, is serving her sentence in a Florida prison and appealing her conviction. Epstein took his own life in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on his own sex trafficking charges.
