There's no better gift than the gift of better WiFi and these two next-gen systems promise to do exactly that.
Netgear’s WiFi 6 offering, the Orbi AX 6000 wasn’t on my radar. That’s probably because I’ve found Netgear’s mesh systems to be serviceable, but ultimately too frustrating for day-to-day use.
Hardware-wise, the AX 6000 is impressive, able to handle up to 2.5 GBps speeds from your ISP and deliver 6 GBps speed via a tri-band system . The third band is for “backhaul” and is solely dedicated to the router and satellites talking to each other, leaving the other two bands open for your devices.
That is when I can see devices on my system. Because, while the performance of the Orbi AX 6000 is jaw-droppingly impressive, the Orbi app is jaw-dropping for different reasons. Even now, once the system is completely configured, if I drop in to see network performance, the app won’t show me what devices are connected. Or if I change a setting, like turning on guest WiFi, it requires a complete system reboot that takes minutes to complete. Compared to the Amplifi Alien, the Orbi app is a return to the bad-old-days, where doing anything with your network hardware was an exercise in extreme patience.
