A three-year-old girl was rescued by police officers from a lake in Thatto Heath, Merseyside (inset) and taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital for treatment on Saturday afternoon.

Paramedics and an air ambulance arrived at the scene following her rescue and she has been taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital. A full statement from Merseyside Police released shortly after the incident said: 'Police officers have rescued a three-year-old child who had fallen in to a lake in Thatto Heath this afternoon.
