Glasgow cleansing workers walk out in row over new 'in-cab' devices

Around 30 staff walked out on Monday after two workers were sent home for refusing to use the new devices, which the Union argue should come with extra pay and additional training.

Glasgow cleansing workers are debating whether or not to stage unofficial industrial action short of a strike over the ongoing dispute about the use of alloy tablets installed in bin lorries.

GMB members argue that the alloy tablet, also known as an “in-cab” device puts extra responsibility on the drivers and there should be extra training and payment for carrying out extra work. The alloy tablets have been designed to allow staff to record quickly a range of service issues, such as missed bin collections or the presence of rats.
