Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced XL Bully dogs will be banned in the UK by the end of the year after a spate of violent attacks by the breed. But Glasgow trainer Daryll Thomson doesn't believe it is the solution.

A Glasgow dog trainer has been inundated by calls from desperate XL Bully owners after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced the breed will be banned in the UK by the end of the year.

However, Daryll Thomson, 30, who runs Cruz K-9 Dog Training in Glasgow, said he doesn't believe the ban will work. However, he acknowledged that genetics did play a part in the danger of the dog. Daryll insisted that "backyard breeders" needed to be targeted by the law instead as they "just care about the money, not the quality of dog".
