Staff at the Blochairn recycling plant are campaigning for a bike shed to allow they to cycle to work without any issues after health and safety concerns were raised.

Workers at a Glasgow recycling plant are campaigning for a bike shed, after being warned their cycling equipment was 'a health and safety hazard'.

Glasgow City Council said bikes have now been moved within the depot for the time being and that they want to support staff being able to travel to work by the most sustainable means. Mr Mitchell said: “I have been trying for about a year to get a bike shed at Blochairn recycling plant as a lot of our workers cycle into work rather than use their car.“I have been asking for a bike rack up there for about a year as the workers have not been able to get one.

“The council says it will cost hundreds of pounds to install one but they have them dotted all over the city and some of them don’t seem to be well used. “It is ridiculous that we are promoting LEZ zones, clean air and healthy living but can’t even get a bike shed for our staff at a recycling plant.”
