A SHOPLIFTER has been tagged after stealing more than £700 worth of items from two major retailers.
Daniel Whitelaw appeared for sentencing at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday after previously pleading guilty to shoplifting from M&S and JD Sports.
The court heard that on the morning of October 27, 2022, the 31-year-old entered M&S on Argyle Street and stole £79.50 worth of clothing as well as “beauty boxes”, worth a total of £600.Earlier that year on the morning of March 3, 2022, Whitelaw entered JD Sports at the Forge Shopping Centre and stole £50 worth of sportswear.Speaking to his lawyer, Sheriff Patricia Pryce said: “At the time, your client had real issues abusing Valium.
Sheriff Pryce told Whitelaw: “You are addressing your issues in terms of your addiction. I can deal with this by an alternative to custody despite your bad record.He was placed under social work supervision for 15 months and tagged. He will require to stay within his home between 7pm-7am for 15 weeks.
