Glenavon have started the search for a new manager after Gary Hamilton parted company with the club following 12 years at Mourneview Park.
Pressure had been mounting on the former Northern Ireland international following the club's poor start to the season.Glenavon had picked up just four points from their opening seven Premiership games to sit 11th in the table, with Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Dungannon Swifts proving the final straw. "The Board of Directors sincerely thanks Gary for his twelve years as Manager. The Hamilton era included many memorable moments which will be part of our Club’s history including two Irish Cup triumphs, four 3rd place finishes in the Premiership and European qualification on four occasions."As a consequence of Gary Hamilton’s departure Assistant Manager Paul McAreavey and coaches Mark Ferguson and Chris Atkinson have resigned. The club thanks them for their services.
Irish Cup wins against Ballymena United and Linfield were halcyon moments during his tenure, but recent seasons have proved a struggle for the provincial outfit in the face of added investment at other clubs in the league.
