Glenluce farming block owners seek approval to live on land amid housing crisis

A small allotment of farming land helped Jo Huf set down roots in regional Victoria but she is struggling to grow her business because she isn't allowed to live on the land.

One woman wants to establish a market garden on her property but has been told she cannot live there beyond December.With her hands in the dirt, Jo Huf looks around the land on which she can grow vegetables but can't call home."I needed something in the ground to make me feel connected."

The permit was renewed for a further six months, but Ms Huf said the council refused to renew it again in December, and they were given about a month to move after a neighbour complainedMs Huf said finding alternative housing at short notice had been stressful. They are living in a caravan at a property about two kilometres away, and still trying to maintain their farm.

But despite making the complaint, the landscape architect and law student said there should be a reassessment of some living arrangements in farming zones, such as those of"There's a lot of bushland that's zoned farming, and it may be that there could be a performance-based assessment of particular planning issues," Mr Wright said."Proper management of the land is really what's fundamental to the farming zone, and that's really our interest," he said.

The Mount Alexander Shire Council said its staff had received threats of violence over the case, and that " inflammatory, offensive, abusive and disrespectful behaviour directed towards council staff ... will not be tolerated."Community Industry Housing Association Victoria chief executive Sarah Toohey said the main issue facing regional towns was a lack of rental housing.

"We're pulling every lever we can to enable 800,000 homes to be built over the next decade, including through making it easier for Victorians to build a small second home on their property," a government spokesperson said.Peter Dutton's a political freak of nature, but is he about to nuke himself with women voters?
