Glenn Maxwell has blasted the Melbourne Stars into the Big Bash finals with another match-winning knock at the MCG. The superstar struck 76 runs off 32 balls — including six sixes — to lead his side to 5-219 off their 20 overs, a total that proved far too big for the ladder-leading Hobart Hurricanes. The visitors were all out for 179 when Maxwell took his third catch of the innings to wrap up the victory.
It’s been so exciting to be part of,” Maxwell told Channel 7 ahead of the franchise’s first finals appearance since 2020. Incumbent Test No.6 Beau Webster belted 51 in his final appearance for the Stars before joining his Australian teammates for a training camp in Dubai ahead of the Sri Lanka tour. The Aussie selectors’ decision not to recall Maxwell to the Test team has now paid dividends for the Stars.
