The tourists were well and truly on the ropes at 4-71 in Friday’s second session but Harry Brook and Pope put together a fighting partnership of 151 for the fifth wicket to cut the deficit in half by tea. Brook scored a brilliant unbeaten century to drag England back into the contest, driving the tourists to within 29 runs of New Zealand’s tally of 348 at 5-319 at the end of Day 2.
