The sport of gliding is male-dominated, but the women who love it want to see more female pilots in the air and across the aviation industry.

Everyone has to work together to get the glider airborne, a tug plane is normally required to tow the glider into the air and maintenance is always required on the aircraft.Leonie Furze started flying gliders in her late 20s and it inspired her to apply for a private pilot licence later on.She and fellow glider Kerrie Claffey competed in the New South Wales Gliding Championships alongside Ms Thompson.
"There are more women than there were when I started, it's improved slowly over time but not greatly," she said. In powered flying, Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority figures show females participation is slowly increasing.
