2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the Title IX legislation which prohibited sex-based discrimination against female students in the United States, but as we look back at the achievements of the past 50 years we must also be aware that 2022 could be the year that the Supreme Court overturns Roe vs Wade and other fundamental rights for women.

Join us as we look back over the careers of these two iconic women, discuss the implications and effects of Title IX as well as the threats facing the women’s rights movement today. Gloria Steinem is a writer, political activist, and feminist organizer. She was a founder of New York and Ms. magazines, has written countless best selling books includingand she has been the recipient of many awards including the Presidential Medal of Freedom which she was awarded in 2013 by President Barack Obama.

Dr. Ann Olivarius is recognised for her pioneering work in representing victims of sexual violence, sexual harassment, and discrimination in both the UK and USA. Nelson Mandela, whom Ann advised personally after his retirement as president of South Africa, described her as ‘a lawyer who has advised me well and who has courageously advanced the cause of justice, and improved life opportunities, for hundreds of millions of women, blacks and disadvantaged, worldwide’.
