Tens of thousands of people have fled from the state's fire-ravaged South Coast and more have been told to leave dozens of other towns after much of southern NSW was declared unsafe.
NSW is again in a state of emergency as it braces for a “very dangerous day” of searing temperatures and strong winds on Saturday, prompting fears that the worst is yet to come.Thousands of motorists lined up for hours for petrol on Thursday before fleeing the NSW South Coast. The declaration of a state of emergency gives the RFS Commissioner extraordinary powers including the ability to evacuate properties, close roads, pull down infrastructure at risk of collapse and order the shutdown of essential utilities such as electricity, gas, oil and water.
Deputy Premier John Barilaro will arrive back in his electorate, which includes Kosciuszko, before Saturday after cutting short his European holiday.
