A Gold Coast neighbourhood remains locked down as police continue to negotiate with two men.

The two men are reportedly in a Nerang duplex owned by an elderly couple and are understood to be on return-to-prison warrants. Police on Wednesday evening declared an emergency declaration for Riverpark Drive, McLaren Road, Kopwhai Place and Inverness Street in Nerang about 5pm. The exclusion zone has forced residents who were not home on Wednesday to sleep overnight in their cars or stay elsewhere.Police continue to negotiate with the two men.It is also believed police want to speak to the men in relation to two shootings on the Gold Coast - one at the Arundel police beat, and another at Coolangatta.St Brigid’s Primary School on McLaren Road has also been closed.

“Police have advised that the situation across from the school is ongoing and the immediate area remains closed,” the school said in an online post on Thursday morning.
