Hurlston Hall Golf Club puts up marquee without permission - now it could be ripped down
An unauthorised marquee at a West Lancashire golf and leisure club, which currently has seven other planning applications awaiting decisions, should be refused, borough councillors are being advised.
The club is located off the A570 Southport Road in a greenbelt zone. A private access road, Hurlston Lane, leads to the golf course, clubhouse, driving range and leisure facilities. But the marquee has been put up without permission, a report to councillors on West Lancashire’s planning committee states. Now, Hurlston Hall Trading Ltd is seeking retrospective permission to officially change the use of the land, which is currently classed as agricultural, and for erection of the marquee.
West Lancashire planning officers are advising councillors to refuse the marquee application. A report on the marquee states: “The proposed development is considered to be inappropriate in the green belt and would have an adverse impact on its openness. Furthermore the design, size and siting of the marquee fails to respect the rural character of the area. The proposed development is also considered to be inappropriate development in an area at risk of flooding.
However, Coun Fowler has asked the planning committee to consider the impact on the green belt and surrounding views, and possible over-development. Planning officers meanwhile are recommending this particular application be approved.
