While not the cleverest nor most complex meme in the world, something about Goots' simplicity and how it was merely an image of a fat goose with a silly caption became so amusing to people that it quickly became an exploitable image that was used to create different variations of the meme.
The Goots Goose Has Been On The Internet Since 2014 While the Goots meme received widespread popularity in early 2022, it was actually discovered that the goose itself has been on the internet since 2014 and is not an original creation from Croix S. Almer's algorithm. The original photo that would become "Goots" was first posted on June 14th, 2014 to the social media site Flickr by a user named Leeber .
The "fat goose" image was then later reposted on Tumblr in March 2016, and from there, it was posted on a Chinese website called Fabiaoqing. The image would not see any major peaks of popularity until 2022 when the "fat goose" image was transformed into the now famous Goots meme. And though the Goots trend may have died down, a comeback for that fat goose is always possible.
