The new GOP leader exacted some misdirected revenge against San Francisco Rep. Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday, angry over Kevin McCarthy's ouster from the speakership.
North Carolina Rep. Patrick McHenry, an avid bowtie guy and the acting speaker of the House, is already playing hardball. McHenry — who ascended to his new position after Kevin McCarthy’s ouster on Tuesday — wasted no time going after a favorite GOP bogeyman, San Francisco Rep. Nancy Pelosi. Just hours after taking up the gavel, McHenry’s office sent an email to Pelosi telling her to clear out of her hideaway office on Capitol Hill, according to multiple news outlets.
Steny Hoyer, a Maryland Democrat who served as House majority leader on two separate occasions, was also asked to abandon his hideaway office on Tuesday. McHenry’s decision to start playing landlord appears to be a form of petty revenge, since McHenry is a McCarthy lieutenant who was hand-picked by the former speaker to assume the role if he should have to vacate it. McCarthy seems to believe his ouster is Democrats’ fault.
