Cairns is now handing the chairmanship of Woolworths to the man who originally handed it to him.

Cairns’ choice of Perkins is not so much radical as repetitive. In October 2020, Cairns retired as the chairman of Origin Energy, having named Perkins as his successor there too. Cairns invited Perkins onto the Origin board in July 2015, the month before Cairns was named Woolworths chairman. Perkins remains Origin’s chairman today.
