‘Got a great future’: Rising star rewarded for breakout year as Diamonds squad named
Mavericks close in on finals campaign | 01:00Young gun Jessie Grenvold has been rewarded for her breakout Super Netball season by being named in the 2026/26 Diamonds squad.
Grenvold is one of two changes for Stacey Marinkovich’s 18-player squad, with Lightning goaler Donnell Wallam earning a recall from training partner status. Grenvold becomes the youngest Diamonds squad member at just 23, and earnt her maiden call up in her first full-time professional season at the Melbourne Mavericks. Club coach Gerard Murphy described Grenvold as “an asset” for the Diamonds set-up.
“She challenges herself – she wants to do more. “She’s really keen, she wants to work and learn and do better all the time. So far in 2026, Grenvold leads the competition for intercepts and is ranked in the top five for deflections, alongside her skipper Amy Parmenter.
“She’s switched on and reads it really well – I think she’s got a great future. ” While Grenvold has enjoyed a rapid rise, her selection comes at the expense of Lightning defender Ashleigh Ervin, who has struggled for court time in 2026 behind Diamond Courtney Bruce and New Zealand skipper Karin Burger. Also missing out on the 2026/27 squad is veteran Paige Hadley, who gave birth to her first child earlier this year.
Wallam returns to the contracted Diamonds squad after electing to return to Super Netball in 2026 – where currently sits as the leading goal scorer.
“The depth of talent across Australian netball continues to raise the bar every year, and that’s reflected in the quality and competitiveness of this Diamonds squad,” Diamonds head coach Stacey Marinkovich said. “We have so many athletes pushing strongly for opportunities and young talent as the Diamonds build towards a crucial period. “It’s a highly competitive environment, but it’s also one built on challenge, connection and support.
“We know what’s ahead with a Commonwealth Games gold medal on the line and a home Netball World Cup approaching . “The mindset of this squad is team-first – everyone leaning in and understanding their role – and that collective commitment is the foundation of our ongoing success.
“While it’s only 54 days until the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and we’re fully focused on winning gold, this squad is also about driving growth and building on our foundations for success into the future. ” Giants vice-captain Amy Sligar is the only training partner to hold her place for the 2026/27 squad - and she’s joined by Firebird Macy Gardner, Mavericks replacement player Charlotte Sexton and Swifts young gun Grace Whyte.
The Diamonds will announce their 12-player squad to head to Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games in the coming weeks.
