‘Got to be reasonably priced’: Plant-based meat products nearing tipping point | carawaters
One of the emerging players in Australia’s plant-based meat industry, Fable, says the sector is close to reaching a tipping point where producers have enough scale to be competitive on pricing with traditional, animal meat products., is planning to scale up production, expand internationally and keep lowering prices after raising $6.5 million in fresh funding led by existing investor Blackbird Ventures.
Mr Fox, who was one of the founders of Shoes of Prey, started Fable in 2019 with fine dining chef and mycologist Jim Fuller and organic mushroom farmer Chris McLoghlin. The latest raising brings the total raised by Fable to $8 million and new investors include Silicon Valley-based agrifood tech venture firm AgFunder, sustainability and plant-based focused funds Aera VC and Better Bite Ventures, Singapore-based Ban Choon Marketing and ex-Sequoia Capital Partner Warren Hogarth.
